Being a mother to a young girl and my moms only daughter I have had to experience this myself. I'm a mom, a wife, a daughter, student, and employee so sometimes I believe that I am allowed to go out and have some fun with my friends, unfortunately my mother doesn't think so. She believes that if my home isn't spotless and my husband isn't on my arm I shouldn't be aloud to go out. She sees me in an outfit she doesn't approve of and instantly starts complaining, she makes it very clear that if I am going to walk around in something "inappropriate" it should be in my home. I stand my ground with her and let her know that I do whatever I please because I can, luckily my husband is extremely supportive and doesn't put me in a box because I am a woman. I am a housewife and he is a househusband, I take care of my daughter and he takes care of his daughter, I cook, he cooks, we are a team regardless of stereotypes.
I would have to say that even though in todays society there are many different ads that promote the "normal" woman or "full figure" woman it is still secretly everywhere, when a "full figure" woman pops up in an ad like Torrid consumers don't automatically think sexy, they say "Oh, she's pretty for a bigger girl". A woman needs to be promoting sex, wether in the way her eyes are, to her stance, so that people are attracted to what is being sold. A perfect example would have to be underwear ads and commercials. For example, first we have Victoria Secret models trying to advertise that no matter what kind of body a person has they are beautiful. Of course women see them and see the sex they radiate and think let me go and buy this under wear so that I can look like that, but in reality "if you flip through a VS catalog it becomes very apparent that their models don’t even wear their bras right." A professional bra fitter stated in her article.
So because of that ten women where very disappointed in the fact that there was minimal body versatility shown in the Victoria Secret ad and wanted to show them what the "perfect" body really is. It is every single woman's body.
Advertising should make women feel like they are beautiful even if they don't look like sex on a stick. Women are not just sex, and aren't here just to please their man, they are here to empower themselves and even though our society is slowly changing, some advertisers need to forget that sex sells and remember that everyday women want to be seen and heard to not pushed to the side. As in the ads below it shows how even in early advertising they made sure women showed some skin to attract individuals to the product and overtime theres just less and less close involved. From an early age people realized that sexuality in a woman is everything, and would definitely raise their products sales.
